Sailing Through Menopause

For so many women, the word menopuase strikes fear in their soul as they anticipate the dreaded symptoms of hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain and low libido.  They may have seen their mothers, sisters or friends suffer with these unbearable symptoms and they feel it’s inevitable that they too will have to put up with this rite of passage.
What’s so surprising for many women is when I explain to them that this doesn’t need to be the case.  While the above symptoms are very common, they are not ‘normal’.  They are very much a Western society phenomenom that is very rare in the East where hot flushes are almost non-existent.  Menopause in it’s natural form should simply be a cessation of periods without any of the accompanying palaver that goes with it.  The problem is that so many women are completely drained by the time this happens, that they are much more prone to suffering through it.
Taking care of yourself, emotionally and physically through your forties can go a long way to recharging yourself so that menopause is smooth sailing.  And this doesn’t have to take a lot of time or a lot of effort. Some simple dietary and lifestyle changes are often all that is needed.  In this talk, Catherine discusses which foods and eating habits can help you to rebuild your inner strength and lifestyle advice to set you on the path to a symptom-free menopause.
In the East, women of this age are revered for their wisdom and it’s a signal for a new start.  The anthropologist Margaret Mead has said, “There is no power greater in the world than the zest of a postmenopausal woman!”.  So take the time now to regain your power and set yourself up for menopause to be a non-event.
